Why am I running for School Committee?
Dear fellow Gorham residents,

It's my privilege to have the opportunity to run for Gorham School Committee this year! I was inspired to run for a Committee seat after spending time volunteering in the schools this past academic year. After being afforded a career sabbatical, I found myself with extra time and wanted to dedicate that time to my community and my children. During my volunteer days, I saw first hand the challenges and the joys that happen behind the brick walls of our schools.

Whether it was a teacher flying in and out of the copy room, forgoing their lunch for copying and planning; the School Resource Officer high-fiving kids in the hallway to put a smile on their face; or teachers and parents bustling about to put on STEM events and Career 'Try It' Days - the work done in our schools is nothing short of amazing.

But we have many challenges that we face ahead. Our school buildings are crowded, most in need of significant repairs. Our budget process was confusing and polarizing, and tax burdens pose a threat to our seniors and fixed-income families. Many teachers are hanging on by a thread in "post-Covid" times, while some community members continue to criticize their professional expertise on social media. We have had 12 Freedom of Access Act requests by the second day of school this academic year, and must brace for more to come. To overcome these challenges, we must be committed to working together as one united community.

I believe my experience in education finance, my dedication to the schools, and my willingness to both listen and have honest conversations about ideas and concerns make me a great candidate for School Committee.

I look forward to the opportunity to work collaboratively to ensure not only that our students continue to thrive, but that Gorham continues to be the best town it can be.
Thank you for your vote in November!
